James Blake: will face fourth-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany next in Metz
James Blake defied 19 aces from home favourite Albano Olivetti to reach the second round of the ATP Moselle Open in Metz.
The experienced American broke Olivetti's serve three times to triumph 6-2 7-6 (7/4) after one hour and 15 minutes on court.
Blake, who lost his first six matches on the ATP Tour this season but has enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since then, will face fourth-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany next.
Frenchman Olivetti, ranked 213th in the world, put up an impressive fight considering he was playing in only his fourth match on tour.
Meanwhile on Monday, three French players - Vincent Millot, Clement Reix and Kenny De Schepper - all came through the final round of qualifying to reach the main draw.
Mischa Zverev also progressed through thanks to a 6-3 6-3 triumph over fellow German Michael Berrer.
