Liam Broady: Lost out to Filip Peliwo in the US Open boy's singles final
Britain's Liam Broady was beaten 6-2 2-6 7-5 by Filip Peliwo of Canada in the boy's singles final at the US Open.
The 18-year-old from Stockport was aiming to become Britain's third winner in New York in eight years after Andy Murray in 2004 and Oli Golding last year, but lost a hard-fought contest after two hours and 25 minutes.
It was Broady's second defeat in a grand slam final after he also missed out at Wimbledon last year to Australia's Luke Saville, while Peliwo was following up his success at Wimbledon this summer.
Broady struggled with his serve and hit eight double faults as he lost the first set and 14 overall.
Peliwo was a break up in the second set at 2-1 but Broady battled back and won five straight games to level the match.
The decider was extremely tight but Peliwo broke the Broady serve in the 11th game and then held on to clinch victory.
Meanwhile, Italy's Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci won the women's doubles title with a 6-4 6-2 triumph over Czech third seeds Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
