Alexandra Panova: battled from set down to reach last eight of Baku Cup
All four remaining seeds at the Baku Cup in Azerbaijan progressed to the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Second seed Alexandra Panova was the only one of the quartet to be taken to three sets, the Russian coming from behind to beat Poland's Sandra Zaniewska 4-6 7-6 (8/6) 6-3.
Third seed Mandy Minella, from Luxembourg, beat another Pole in Marta Domachowska 6-4 7-5 while Bojana Jovanovski, the Serbian fifth seed, eased past Valeria Solovieva of Russia 6-2 6-3.
Sixth-seeded Russian Nina Bratchikova won the first set 6-0 before Spanish opponent Estrella Cabeza Candela withdrew due to injury.
Olga Puchkova swelled the Russian contingent in the last eight as she beat Alberta Brianti 3-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-1.
There were also straight-sets wins for American Julia Cohen, Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic and Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova, who dropped only one game against Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand.
