Former champion dumped out of Croatian Open by home outsider

Juan Carlos Ferrero: Easily beaten by Mate Pavic
Sixth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero was sent crashing out of the Vegeta Croatia Open after a 6-2 6-2 defeat in the first round to home wild card Mate Pavic.
The former world number one, who won the tournament in 2010, had his serve broken four times as he suffered a shock defeat to the Croatian teenager.
Ferrero managed a first serve percentage of just 45 per cent and struggled when having to resort to his second serve, winning just 35 per cent of such points.
Pavic, who wrapped up the win in 60 minutes, will face Andrey Kuznetsov in the second round of the clay court tournament in Umag.
"My coach told me to play my game and not pay attention to the fact that is a former number one. This win means so much," Pavic said.
But there was no such luck for Pavic's fellow Croatian Ivan Dodig as he was eliminated from the tournament after a 6-4 6-0 defeat to fifth seed Carlos Berlocq.
Elsewhere in the first round on Tuesday, American Wayne Odesnik produced another shock as he dumped out eighth seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin after a 6-7 6-2 7-5 win.
Former runner-up Potito Starace beat Slovak qualifier Ivo Klec 6-3 7-6, while Ernests Gulbis, Fabio Fognini, Blaz Kavcic, Marco Trungelliti and Daniel Brands also progressed.
