Juan Ignacio Chela: Suffered a shock defeat to Albert Ramos
Eighth seed Juan Ignacio Chela crashed out of the Copa Claro in Buenos Aires after he let a one-set lead slip against Albert Ramos.
The home hope went down 4-6 6-3 6-4 to become the only high-profile casualty on Tuesday.
Top seed David Ferrer dropped only one game as he stormed into the second round with the minimum of fuss.
The Spaniard beat qualifier Andres Molteni 6-1 6-0 in just 50 minutes to set up a clash with Facundo Bagnis in the last 16.
Tougher
Third seed Gilles Simon was a 6-3 7-5 winner over Rui Machado, but second seed Nicolas Almagro had a tougher test.
The Spaniard lost the first set to Potito Starace but came back to win 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4) in over two hours.
Fellow seeds Juan Monaco (fifth) and Fernando Verdasco (seventh) also eased through, the former after Filippo Volandri's second-set withdrawal while Verdasco beat Eric Prodon 6-4 6-1.
David Nalbandian was left to lead the Argentinean challenge after a 6-2 6-3 win over Wayne Odesnik, while Federico Delbonis beat Frederico Gil 6-2 6-2.
Igor Andreev and Benoit Paire were the day's other winners.
