There was double woe for Great Britain at the Memphis International on Monday as both Elena Baltacha and Heather Watson bowed out.

British number one Baltacha, seeded sixth at the WTA event, was thrashed 6-2 6-1 by Michaella Krajicek, less than three weeks after beating the Dutchwoman in a Fed Cup tie.

Watson was also beaten in round one, losing 6-2 6-3 to Swede Sofia Arvidsson.

That result will come as a blow to Fed Cup captain Judy Murray with GB due to head to Sweden in April when Watson and Arvidsson could meet again.

Russian Nadia Petrova is the top seed for the hardcourt tournament.
