Angelique Kerber lifted the first WTA tour title of her career with a shock win over Marion Bartoli of France in the Paris Open on Sunday.
Kerber seemed to have paved the way for Bartoli to claim her first trophy on French soil after beating Maria Sharapova in the quarter-final.
But The German stunned the home favourite with a confident display on the Stade Coubertin hardcourt to silence the crowd with a 7-6 5-7 6-3 victory.
"It's incredible," said Kerber, who had never beaten a top-10 player prior to arriving to Paris. "I don't know what to say. The match was so tough but I fought on all the big points. It's been a fantastic week."
