Juan Monaco (L): Defeated Carlos Berlocq in final of VTR Open
Top seed Juan Monaco ended a title drought of five years by beating Carlos Berlocq 6-3 6-7 6-1 in the final of the VTR Open.
The Argentine made a strong start against his compatriot in Vina del Mar, comfortably wrapping up the first set and taking a 4-2 lead in the second.
But Berlocq fought back to level the contest in a second set tie-break before Monaco once again pulled away in the decider to win his first tournament since 2007.
Monaco has appeared in seven finals since his last victory and was delighted to finally get his hand on a winner's trophy again.
"I'm very happy to be champion again. I lost the last seven finals, so this is a very special moment for me," he told the ATP's official website.
"I'm very happy because I fought a lot, I practised a lot and I was thinking a lot about winning a tournament again. It gives me confidence and motivation."
