Germany's second seed through to round two at Pattaya Open

German Sabine Lisicki progressed to the second round of the Pattaya Open in just 32 minutes after opponent Akgul Amanmuradova retired due to injury. World number 25 Lisicki was holding a 5-0 advantage over Amanmuradova when the Uzbek required on-court treatment for a stomach muscle injury, then consequently dropped the next game and forfeited the match. Meanwhile, Russian Anna Chakvetadze secured a welcome 6-1 3-6 6-3 triumph over American Jill Craybas but admits she is still not satisfied with her form. The former world number five has struggled to reach her full potential of late, slipping to number 74 in the rankings. Chakvetadze was beaten by Kimiko Date Krumm in the first round in Auckland at the beginning of the season before failing to qualify in Hobart and falling to 12th-ranked Flavia Pennetta in the first round of the Australian Open.

Dominant

"I'm not satisfied with the way I played today. Lots of unforced errors," said Chakvetadze. "I just didn't feel the ball. I don't know what happened. I think I have to go and hit more balls today because it's really tough to win matches if you play like this. "I came just a couple of days ago from Russia and it's a little tough for me, you know. But that's not an excuse. I have to play better if I want to win some matches." Chakvetadze was broken in the opening game but went on to dominate the first set, taking advantage of a string of errors from the American. The Russian also earned the first break of the second set to go 2-1 up, but Craybas reduced her unforced errors to put herself back in the running. However, Chakvetadze proved the stronger player in the final set and, after an early exchange of breaks, set up a 5-3 lead before serving out the match to love. In other first round action, Wimbledon junior champion Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand fell 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 6-4 to South African Chanelle Scheepers in a two hour 40 minute battle.
