Serena and Venus Williams have withdrawn from the ladies' doubles tournament at Wimbledon.

No reason was given for their decision to pull out from a competition they have won on five occasions, most recently in 2012.

The sisters, who were easy winners in their first singles matches on Monday, could meet in the fourth round of the Championships.

Lucky losers Misaki Doi and Stephanie Vogt were promoted to take their place in the draw.

Serena Williams fell ill during their second round doubles match in last year's Wimbledon, forcing the pair to withdraw.

They were not the only withdrawals on Tuesday, with Slovakian pair Dominika Cibulkova and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova also pulling out of the ladies' doubles.
