Andy Murray is one victory away from a magical 500th win

British No 1 Andy Murray is on the brink of a personal milestone as he aims to clinch his 500th win on the ATP Tour at the Miami Open on Tuesday.

Murray would become just the ninth active player and only the 46th man in the Open era to achieve the 500-win milestone should he defeat 15th seed Kevin Anderson in the fourth round at Key Biscayne.

The 27-year-old Scotsman eased into the last 16 after breezing past Colombia's Santiago Giraldo 6-3 6-4 to set up a clash against the tall South African, who eliminated Argentina's Leonardo Mayer.

Murray, who won the Miami title in 2009 and 2013, admits 'it's a nice feeling' to be added to the roll of honour once he reaches the half century mark.

"When you see the list of players that have won that many matches there's isn't a lot. I think there are only forty or so players that have done it," said Murray, who has suffered 155 career defeats.

"Hopefully I can win some more throughout my career. Maybe it doesn't happen in a couple of days. I hope it does. But if not, then, you know, I'm sure at some stage I will get there.

"I obviously want to try and win more, and hopefully still have quite a few years ahead of me left to add to that number. It's a lot of wins. It's not easy these days to win that many matches, so that's a good sign."

Against Anderson, who stands 6ft 8in tall, Murray has three wins from four matches, the last in Valencia last year which he won in three sets.

Anderson did beat him at World Tour Masters in Montreal four years ago in convincing fashion - 6-3 6-1 - and the Briton will be wary of his opponent, who resides in nearby Delray Beach.

Also in action on Tuesday is Novak Djokovic, who will face Alexandr Dolgopolov. Tomas Berdych faces Gael Monfils, and Milos Raonic plays John Isner. Kei Nishikori rounds off the day againsts David Goffin.
