Roger Federer has been named as the Indian Aces' marquee player at the inaugural International Premier Tennis League after the enforced withdrawal of Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard was due to lead the Aces in the four-team tournament, but misses out due to the injury problems which also sidelined him from the US Open.

Federer will instead join Gael Monfils, Ana Ivanovic, Fabrice Santoro and Pete Sampras in the team, alongside Indian duo Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna.

The world No 3, who is currently preparing for the ATP World Tour Finals, said in an IPTL statement: "I'm really looking forward to making my first trip to New Delhi and playing for the Micromax Indian Aces.
