British No 1 Andy Murray is eyeing consistency during the rest of the season to fire himself back up the tennis rankings.
The Scot has not been at his best this season and dropped to world No 9 as a result, meaning he could face a potential quarter-final with Novak Djokovic at the Toronto Masters this week.
But Murray, who at one stage was as high as No 2 in the world, believes he is starting to find form and expects to climb up the rankings, especially as his season last year was cut short through back surgery.
He told Sky Sports: “The lower you drop in the rankings, naturally the harder the draws become but hopefully I can pick some points up over the next few weeks and months.
“Obviously I didn’t play the last three months of last year, so after the US Open I have no points to defend through to the end of the year and hopefully then the ranking will start to move up again.
“But outside of the Slams really it’s been a tough year for me, I haven’t played so well.
“In the Slams, I’ve had a few disappointing matches. But I’ve played some good tennis the last few months and I just need to get the consistency now.”
