David Ferrer: Dropped the first set but sealed victory in style

Top seed David Ferrer will take on fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open after the pair struggled to victory on Thursday.

Ferrer dropped the first set but bounced back to break American Jack Sock five times on the way to a hard-fought 4-6 6-3 6-1 win.

The unseeded Verdasco, meanwhile, saw off the challenge of three-time former finalist Jarkko Nieminen, securing a 6-2 3-6 6-3 victory.

Fifth seed Ernests Gulbis reached his fourth ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season by beating Igor Sijsling 6-3 7-6, while Kenny De Schepper upset fourth seed Kevin Anderson 7-6 4-6 6-3.

Grigor Dimitrov saw off Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1 6-3 while second seed Milos Raonic was the last man out on court and booked his place in the next round with a 6-2 7-6 victory over Joachim Johansson.
