Andrea Petkovic: Beats top seed Jelena Jankovic to reach Nurnberg final

Top seed Jelena Jankovic has been sent packing from the WTA Tour event at Nurnberg in Germany.

The former world No 1 from Serbia was beaten 6-4 6-3 by Andrea Petkovic in 91 minutes.

In a match featuring 10 service breaks, Jankovic threw away a 2-0 lead in the first set against the German who is currently ranked No 103 in the world.

The 28-year-old from Belgrade, now ranked 16, also claimed an early break in the second set but once again failed to take advantage.

Jankovic could win just seven points on her own serve during the second set as Petkovic secured her fourth win over her opponent in six meetings.

In Saturday's final at the clay court tournament, Petkovic will will meet Romania's seventh-seeded Simona Halep, who overcame Czech fifth seed Lucie Safarova 6-3 0-6 6-2 in the other semi-final.
