World No 1 Victoria Azarenka is through to the second round of the Generali Ladies Open in Linz after a very easy 6-0 6-2 victory over Arantxa Rus.

Azarenka seems determined to cap a fine year in style and, having triumphed in Beijing last week, she dominated her Dutch opponent in the first set.

Rus won just two points on her own serve in the opener and failed to threaten the Azarenka serve, before also losing the first two games in set two.

However, she then managed to win her first game of the match and secured a break three games later to stay within range at 2-4.

But Azarenka then broke yet again to lead 5-2 and easily served out the match to set up a clash with Simona Halep of Romania.

Azarenka said: "It was definitely not easy. I've done something incredible last week and the court here is different but I did well to adapt.

"Being No 1 means you're more targeted by the other players but I just try to stick to my own game."

Germany's Julia Goerges is already through to the last eight after a 6-3 6-3 win over Romina Oprandi of Switzerland in her second round match.

The fifth seed saved all four break points she faced and broke in the sixth game of the first set and twice more in the second.

Two-time former winner Ana Ivanovic of Serbia also advanced with a 7-5 6-3 win over Monica Niculescu of Romania.
