Mikhail Kukushkin: Beaten in first round by Daniel Gimeno-Traver
Fifth seed Mikhail Kukushkin suffered a shock defeat in the opening round of the SkiStar Swedish Open as he went down 6-4 3-6 6-3 to Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
Spain's Gimeno-Traver sent down 10 aces and broke his Kazakh opponent's serve a total of four times as he came through to claim victory in the deciding set.
Seventh seed Fillipo Volandri had no such problems, however, as he saw off Michael Ryderstedt with ease, securing a 6-4 6-2 win on Tuesday.
The elimination of home favourite Ryerstedt means there are no Swedish players left in the tournament with just one round completed in Bastad.
Elsewhere in first round action, Evgeny Korolev eased through with a 6-0 6-3 win over Thiago Alves and Frederico Gil beat Marsel Ilhan 6-4 1-6 6-3.
Top seed David Ferrer is set to be in action on Wednesday, when he will face Simone Bolelli who secured his passage into the second round with a win on Monday.
The defending champion in the clay court event - Sweden's Robin Soderling - is not competing in the tournament as he continues to recover from illness.
