Cilic: Will meet Wawrinka in final
Only Stanislas Wawrinka now remains in the way of second seed Marin Cilic defending his ATP Chennai Open title.
"It is great to be in the final here again, a very good way to start the year"
Marin Cilic Quotes of the week
Croatian Cilic, who is the highest seed left in the tournament after Robin Soderling suffered a first-round defeat, crushed Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-1 6-3 in 84 minutes to book his place in the final for a second consecutive year.
"It is great to be in the final here again, a very good way to start the year," said Cilic.
"This was my best match in the tournament. I served well and hit well from the back.
"He was trying to come back in the second set, but I did not give him an opening. I feel really good about my game and look forward to returning to the court tomorrow."
World number 14 Cilic, who overcame Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals last year, was surprisingly broken in the opening game by the world number 38, but stormed back to claim a decisive win.
The second semi-final was a much tighter affair, with Wawrinka taking just over two-and-a-half hours to dispose of Dudi Sela 6-4 2-6 7-5.
Sela salvaged a break point in the concluding game but the third seed edged ahead at the second attempt, as he took the game 40-30.
Wawrinka enters the final holding a 4-0 record over Cilic, with his last victory over the Croatian at the French Open in 2008.
"Definitely he is a tough player to play, tough to beat," added Cilic. "I am also playing well."
