Victoria Azarenka has confirmed she will miss the French Open later this month as she continues to recover from a foot injury.

The world No 5 from Belarus has been out since early March when she lost to America's Lauren Davis in the first round of the Indian Wells tournament.

Azarenka's problem first flared up at the Australian Open in January, where she was the two-time defending champion, and she was beaten by Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarter-finals.

"Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in Roland Garros this year," Azarenka said on Twitter.

"Working hard on my recovery and getting back on court."

The tournament begins on Sunday and runs until June 8.
