Sebastian Vettel: In pole position for third successive title

Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel could clinch a third consecutive Formula One title if the German has his own way in the US Grand Prix this weekend, and he's Sky Bet's 5/4 favourite to take the chequered flag in Texas.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso, Vettel's only remaining Drivers' Championship contender, is 3/1 to wrestle the title from the German driver's grasp and is refusing to go down without a fight, registering three successive podium finishes.

The Ferrari driver is 5/1 to win at the new Circuit of the Americas behind McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who is rated as the 5/2 second favourite.

Vettel, bidding to become only the third man in history to win three titles on the trot, will secure the 2012 crown if he can outscore Alonso by 15 points, but Sky Bet make the former Renault man 4/6 to finish on the podium and keep his own chances of a third world championship alive.

Red Bull have rediscovered their form at just the right time, though, with Vettel 11/4 to clinch the title this weekend, and 2/9 not to finish the job ahead of the final race of the season in Brazil.

The 25-year-old, the youngest champion in the history of the sport, is 4/1 to win the race and produce the fastest lap in the process, while team-mate Mark Webber is rated at 8/1 to earn his third victory of the season.

Hamilton, participating in his penultimate race for McLaren, won the last US Grand Prix at Indianapolis in 2007 and he's available at 7/4 to start from Pole Position for the second race running, and 4/1 to be the fastest qualifier and race winner.

Meanwhile, Hamilton's team-mate Jenson Button's chances of a third win of the season are rated at 11/1, but the 2009 champion is better priced at 4/1 not to be classified, as McLaren's reliability problems refuse to fade.

The US has a rich, if patchy, history of hosting F1 events, and no driver has won more times stateside than Michael Schumacher, but the veteran German is a long shot at 250/1 to add to that tally this weekend, although you can back him at 6/4 to build on his season points tally of 43 by finishing in the points.
