Poole Pirates raced to victory in the Elite League Pairs with a thrilling victory in the final over hosts Eastbourne.

Hans Andersen - who won the title with Coventry last season - and Chris Holder beat Davey Watt and Lewis Bridger to the title.

In the final Watt claimed the win, but Holder and Andersen took second and third place to claim the tile with a 5-4 success.

Bridger had led Andersen until the final lap but with Holder slowing down the race from second place, GP star Andersen was able to go around Bridger on the final bend.

Both semi-finals were also won 5-4, with second and third placings enough to take the South Coast teams through.

Lee Richardson won the first semi-final for Lakeside Hammers but Watt and Bridger delighted the home fans by holding on to the minor placings.

It was a similar story in the second semi-final, with Chris Harris' victory for Coventry in vain as Ed Kennett pressed too hard on lap four and crashed out, leaving Andersen and Holder to share five points.

Andersen told Sky Sports: "We're loving it. It is nice to win something especially for the Poole fans. They have not had a lot to cheer but tonight we won something."

Earlier, Lakeside had come top of the nine-team standings with 24 points, ahead of Poole (22), Coventry (21) and Eastbourne (21).

Wolverhampton narrowly missed out on a semi-final place, Poole's six points from their final heat denying the Wolves, who finished just outside the top four.
