Katie Taylor has secured an Olympic medal by winning her 60kg division quarter-final in London.

Taylor ended Great Britain's Natasha Jonas dreams of Olympic glory with an impressive display. This eagerly awaited lightweight bout delivered plenty of excitement, but Jonas was ultimately outclassed by Taylor, who led from the start in a dominant 26-15 win.

Taylor's crisp combinations gave her the edge in the opener as her swift straight right helped her build an early 5-2 lead.

Jonas bravely battled back and a left hand forced Taylor to lose her balance, but the Irish fighter was still 10-7 ahead at the bell.

The Liverpudlian tired in the third and was given a standing count as Taylor opened up a 19-11 advantage.

Jonas was repeatedly tagged by rights in the fourth and again needed a standing count, but she still fired back defiantly until the finish.

Taylor's semi-final against Mavzuna Chorieva of Tajikistan will take place on Wednesday afternoon.
