Lucy Garner: Overcame a big crash to record a top half finish

My last training camp had been and gone.

A good solid week of blocks took place, waking up the legs ready for the first race to start and last week I had a great time with the Sky Sports News crew who filmed me and the team out in Spain!

For me, the efforts and blocks of training had started pretty late as my goals are later on in the season. The day of the race I was pretty nervous, which is normal for my first race of the season.

I had a good start and stayed at the front of the bunch for the first 60km. However, there was then a big crash and unfortunately I was in it, but luckily I escaped with just a few cuts so I got straight back on my bike.

The hills started after 60km and then I held onto as many wheels as possible. I managed to get myself into the second group, which I was very pleased with.

We never saw the first group again so after 130km of racing I rolled over the line in 43rd which I was more than satisfied with after a hard crash and knowing that last year I wasn't able to even finish.

My Giant-Shimano team-mate Amy Pieters won the race which was amazing for the team! I am really happy with my form especially considering I haven't been doing a lot of speed work.
