Sam Oldham: Battled on to compete in the World Championships despite suffering an ankle injury in the build up

Hi guys, for the past two weeks I have been in Antwerp, Belgium for the World Championships.

The food, accommodation and training venues were all really good. However, my preparation for the competition has been a bit of a struggle.

I managed to pick up a couple of injuries which majorly affected my training in the lead up. I landed short on a tumble during a floor routine in training and gave my ankles a right crunching!

This meant I had to lay off both the floor and vault and also had to take a step back on the other apparatus for a couple of weeks - which wasn't ideal, to say the least. I still managed to make the team, although only competing in one event, the floor.

Disappointed

The comp itself went OK but wasn't good enough for the final. Obviously, I was pretty disappointed but I knew I wasn't in great shape and hadn't done the numbers in the gym.

On the whole it was a great experience, I learnt a great deal and it was awesome to see two of my team-mates pick up medals for GB! Right now, I'm having a few days off just to chill out and give my body a chance to rest.

I have a few competitions coming up in November and early December so I will keep you guys updated on how things are going.
