Joe Launchbury: Man-of-the-match in Grenoble
Wasps regained top spot in Pool Four of the Amlin Challenge Cup with an impressive seven-try 47-7 mauling of Grenoble in France.
Charlie Hayter scored twice as Wasps gave another demonstration of their title credentials, chalking up their third straight victory in the competition which puts them four points clear of Bayonne.
In a tight opening 10 minutes, Joe Carlisle missed two early penalty chances, but the scrum-half was instrumental in the first try.
But scrum-half Joe Simpson then made a superb 25-metre break and his long pass handed Will Helu - playing against his former club - the space to run in from 35 metres to score the opener after 13 minutes.
Then Hayter's break on 22 minutes allowed Guy Thompson to score his first try of the night to earn Wasps a 14-0 half-time lead.
Wasps extended the lead five minutes into the second half. England lock Joe Launchbury - outstanding all night - was held up just short of the line, but Thompson bulldozed over.
Hayter sealed the bonus point when he went over in the left corner after a deft chip from Carlisle and brilliant offload from Launchbury.
Grenoble finally got on the scoreboard when flanker Cedric Beal smashed his way over from a scrum.
Wasps were, for a spell, down to 13 with Kearnan Myall and Carlo Festuccia both down injured.
But Hayter sealed the victory when he intercepted a dreadful pass and ran in for his second try.
Jack Winter-Moates stepped off the bench to finish a break by Tom Lindsay in style six minutes from time before Josh Bassett completed the rout.
