Super Rugby: The Reds hold off the Hurricanes to clinch victory in Brisbane
Last Updated: 01/03/13 12:36pm
The Reds made it two wins on the bounce as they recorded a hard-fought 18-12 victory over the Hurricanes in Brisbane.
The Reds had lost their opening game of the new campaign against the Brumbies before responding well to hold off the Waratahs last week.
And the 2011 champions picked up a second win of the campaign as they edged out the Hurricanes.
In the end the Reds were deserved winners, outscoring the Wellington franchise two tries to nil - although it was a scrappy affair.
Australia winger Digby Ioane snuck over in the corner in the first half to set the Reds on their way.
And after the break Rob Simmons profited from Ben Tapuai's good work to score his first Super Rugby try.
Quade Cooper, taking over the kicking duties from the benched Mike Harris, slotted over two penalties and two conversions.
The Hurricanes had their chances, particularly in the second period, however they just couldn't breach the Reds defence.
In the end they had to settle for four penalties from the boot of Beauden Barrett to clinch a bonus point.
