Ollie Phillips: Was sent off against Scotland
England claimed the FIRA-AER European Series title despite a disappointing weekend at the Odense Sevens in Denmark.
England had been unbeaten as they won the Lyon and Moscow crowns - however they couldn't maintain their impressive run in Denmark.
Ben Ryan's men had toppled Germany (24-7) and the hosts (43-7) but they came unstuck against a full-strength Scotland side.
England saw Ollie Phillips red-carded early on and Scotland took full advantage to record a 26-14 win and top the pool.
And things got worse for England as they lost 14-7 to eventual champions France in the cup quarter-finals despite Les Bleus having two players yellow-carded.
England did respond with a 28-21 victory over Russia in the plate semi-final, only for Georgia to snatch the title with a 21-14 success.
Scotland failed to build on their win over England as they lost to Wales in the cup and then Georgia in the plate.
Wales ended up claiming third spot overall with a win over Spain after their semi-final loss to Portugal.
