A depleted Toulon team came a cropper at Castres, allowing Clermont Auvergne - who hammered Stade Francais on Saturday - to take over as new Top 14 leaders.

Castres 22-14 Toulon

Castres climbed off the bottom of the table on Saturday with a surprise win over a depleted Toulon team which included seven youth players due to international commitments.

The reigning league champions trailed 22-0 until the 68th minute before David Smith scored two converted tries to add a little gloss to the final scoreline.

By then Capo Ortega, Romain Cabannes and former All Black Sitiveni Sivivatu had all crossed for a home side who were only without Rory Kockott and Remi Tales.

Clermont Auvergne 51-9 Stade Francais

Clermont took advantage of Toulon's defeat at Castres to move to the summit with a dominant bonus-point win over Stade Francais at Stade Marcel Michelin.

Napolioni Nalaga pulled out of Fiji's Test against France in Marseille, and Clermont were grateful for his presence as he scored two second-half tries.

Fritz Lee and Peceli Yato also touched down twice, while , Noa Nakaitaci was only denied a double of his own when a potential second try was ruled out for an offside.

Grenoble 34-30 Lyon

Jonathan Wisniewski kicked 29 points, including a last-gasp touchline conversion, as Grenoble stayed unbeaten at home with a narrow win over Lyon.

Lyon looked like they were on course for a first away win of the campaign, George Smith scoring two tries in the first-half as they led 17-12 at the break at Stade des Alpes.

They were 30-24 in front and on course for a bonus-point win until James Hart went over seconds after coming on to bring his team to within a point. Wisniewski then slotted the conversion from the touchline before kicking a penalty to seal the result.

Oyonnax 37-9 La Rochelle

Oyonnax ran in five tries as they cruised past La Rochelle to move out of the bottom two.

Yves Donguy and Jody Jenneker went over in the first-half as Christophe Urios' side led 15-6 at the break, with their remaining at nine points after an hour of the contest.

However, when Benjamin Geledan was sin-binned for La Rochelle, Oyonnax ran in two late tries, through Christophe André and Fabien Cibray, to move clear in the closing stages.

Racing Metro 27-10 Bayonne

Racing bounced back from last week's shock home defeat against Oyonnax to comfortably see off Bayonne at Stade Yves du Manoir.

Maxime Machenaud's boot and a try from Henry Chavancy try helped the hosts open up a commanding 19-3 advantage after the first 40 minutes.

His fifth penalty of the evening stretched the lead even further, but Racing then lost Antonie Claassen to a sin-binning when he held back Marvin O'Connor.

Bordeaux-Begles 20-21 Toulouse

Pierre Bernard missed a last-gasp conversion as Toulouse ended Bordeaux's unbeaten home record at Stade Chaban Delmas to make it six wins on the spin.

The fly-half, release from the France squad to play for his club, couldn't add the extras after Louis-Benoit Madaule's late try looked set to save the game for Raphael Ibanez's side.

Toulouse scored tries through the returning Clement Poitrenaud and Florian Fritz while Luke McAlister added a conversion, a drop goal and two penalties for the visitors.
