Worcester’s Agustin Creevy has been appointed skipper of Argentina for the forthcoming Rugby Championship.

Creevy already has 28 Test caps to his name and is delighted to have been awarded the honour of leading his country during the four-nation tournament that also involves New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

The hooker told Argentina Rugby Union's official website: "This is an immense joy.

“I did not expect this as there are many other players with important qualities. I receive it with great honour and I hope to keep guiding our players."

Creevy, 29, joined Warriors from Montpellier in the summer of 2013 having also played for two other French clubs – Biarritz and Clermont.

Argentina open their campaign on Saturday, August 16, against South Africa at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The tournament, which ends in early October, will once again be broadcast on Sky Sports.
