Plymouth Albion full-back Louis Messer is set to miss the majority of the season with a serious knee injury.

Messer, a product of the Bath academy set-up, suffered the setback against Leeds in September - but an initial diagnosis suggested only a minor problem.

However further tests have now revealed that Messer, a former England Students international, now faces an extended period on the sidelines after rupturing his cruciate ligament.

And with Henry Slade likely to be involved in LV= Cup action for parent club Exeter, as well as international action with England Under-20s, Albion now find them short of options for the No.15 jersey.
