Montpellier. who currently sit in eighth spot and will miss out on making the top six play-offs for the first time since 2010/11, decided to announce the deal to put an end to rumours that White was going to take over as France coach.

White was reported to be one of the eight candidates shortlisted to succeed Philippe Saint-Andre, along with former England coach Clive Woodward.

Compatriot Shaun Sowerby (forwards) and Australian Scott Wisemantel (backs) will act as his assistants next season.
