Toulon ran in nine tries as they eased to a 61-28 victory over Grenoble at the Stade Mayol to move to the Top 14 summit.

The visitors were unable to pull off a repeat of last season's shock win at the ground, Delon Armitage touching down twice for the reigning French and European champions on Sunday.

Grenoble's cause wasn't helped by them at one stage being down to 13 men, Migel Hunt and Paul Willemse both being sin-binned.

Still, the hosts only led 17-14 at the break after Alipate Ratini burst through the middle of the defence to grab a try for Grenoble.

Armitage rounded off a fine move orchestrated by Maxime Mermoz to get his first of the match early in the second half, though a Drew Mitchell handling error gifted flanker Henry Vanderglas the chance to respond.

With 30 minutes remaining the difference was only four points, but Toulon then cut loose to give the final scoreline a rather one-sided look.

Jean-Charles Orioli, Juan Smith and Mermoz all crossed for Bernard Laporte's team before England international Armitage completed his brace.

Bryan Habana rounded out the scoring as Toulon moved into a two-point lead over Clermont and Stade Francais in the standings.
