Former Cardiff Blues full-back Ben Blair is set to announce his retirement because of a knee injury.
Blair, who spent six years with the Blues, moved from Clermont Auvergne to Agen in the summer.
But Agen boss Phillipe Sella has confirmed that a knee cartilage problem means Blair - who won four caps for his native New Zealand - will be forced to hang up his boots without playing for the Top 14 club.
Sella said: "He had a visit with the doctor, it's classic procedure in a separation.
"He follow an intensive programme at the Medipole de Toulouse but we haven't had very good feedback, nothing to be optimistic about.
"It's sad as it signifies the end of his career."
