Rugby: Jonathan Sexton will not be rushed back from head injury, say Racing Metro

Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton will not be rushed back from the head injury he sustained against Australia last month, his Racing Metro coach said on Thursday.

Sexton clashed heads with team-mate Rob Kearney as they combined to tackle Adam Ashley-Cooper in the 77th minute of Ireland’s 26-23 win on November 22.

The 29-year-old has not featured for Racing since and was again left out of the squad for Saturday's Top 14 game against La Rochelle.

When asked about Sexton’s absence, Racing coach Laurent Labit said: "He will not play a match until he's 100 percent.”

Sexton’s concussion was his third in the calendar year but he stated afterwards he was not concerned about the problem.

“It’s not something I’m worried about personally,” he said to the Irish Times. “It’s not like I’m getting knocked out or anything like that or having memory loss.”

Sexton is leaving Racing at the end of the season to rejoin Leinster and will be replaced in the French capital by All Blacks legend Dan Carter.
