Former Pau tighthead Karim Bougherara is set to sign a one-year deal with Toulon provided he passes a medical on Tuesday.

Former Pau tighthead Karim Bougherara is set to sign a one-year deal with Toulon provided he passes a medical on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old will fill in for the injured Martin Castrogiovanni, who required surgery this summer on an adductor problem and faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Springbok World Cup winner CJ Van der Linde was tipped to join after a trial last week, but the Toulon staff decided against that after week trial, and instead it will be Bougherara who will back up skipper Carl Hayman alongside Georgian international Levan Chilachava.

"I knew that Toulon wanted a tighthead prop and I was free of any engagement after finishing my contract with Pau," said Bougherara.

"I arrived at the start of last week for a trial, I went back to Vienne on Thursday and today I'm here.

"It's amazing to be alongside the guys here, it forces your level up. I'm not usually someone who is a fan of other players, I concentrate first and foremost on my rugby, but being alongside Carl Hayman is excellent.

"I know the competition will be tough with Carl, Chilachava and Castriogiovanni, but I will make sure I'm ready to show what I can do."
