Biarritz have been rocked by news that talismanic scrum-half Dimitri Yachvili has been sidelined for three months.
The France international came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of Saturday's opening game of the new Top 14 season against Mont de Marsan.
However Yachvili has now been forced to undergo surgery on his back to correct a herniated disc.
"I felt pain for a few weeks," Yachvili told the club's official site.
"I had received injections a month ago, but the pain persisted despite anti-inflammatory. I have deferred to the opinion of a specialist, that the intervention was necessary.
"I am very disappointed of course, but I'm not depressed."
