Waratahs head coach Michael Cheika has named four Australia internationals in his line-up to face the British and Irish Lions on Saturday.
Captain Dave Dennis and centre Rob Horne were both released from the Wallabies training squad for the fixture and they will both start in Sydney.
They are joined by winger Drew Mitchell, who has been capped 63 times, and prop Paddy Ryan.
Bernard Foley, who was released from the Australia Sevens set-up, is handed the No 10 jersey, while Matt Lucas has to settle for a place on the bench after teaming up with the squad.
The Waratahs will also be buoyed by the return to fitness of openside Pat McCutcheon, with the former Australia Sevens captain having recovered from a knee injury.
Cheika said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we want it to be something worth remembering. We're going to go for it, we can't be looking for a glorious defeat. As a player, you want to say that you played in an international-level fixture and you made something of it.
"We're playing against a team with a massive artillery. Obviously I'd like to have all our international players available but fair play to the ARU to giving us Dave and Rob back and for releasing Bernard and Matt from the Sevens camp.
"We've been all about trying to develop a winning attitude, no matter who's in the jersey. The odds are against us, massively, but we'll try and buck them. As long as there's a chance, we'll take it. Anything in red that moves, we'll have a crack at. We need to play our game and do it as best we can and see what happens."
The Waratahs are without Benn Robinson, Sekope Kepu, Kane Douglas, Michael Hooper, Wycliff Palu, Berrick Barnes, Adam Ashley-Cooper and Israel Folau, who have all stayed with the Wallabies squad, while Tatafu Polota Nau, Greg Peterson, Mitchell Chapman, Sitaleki Timani, Michael Hodge and Lachie Turner are injured.
That means three Shute Shield players, Richard Aho, AJ Gilbert and Sam Talakei are named on the bench.
