Chris Robshaw: Missed out on selection for the Lions' tour of Australia this summer
England captain Chris Robshaw admits he was heartbroken to be left out of the Lions squad.
A few months ago, with England flying high in the Six Nations and Sam Warburton struggling to nail down a place in the Wales starting XV, Robshaw was favourite to be named Lions captain.
But Wales hammered England in the Six Nations decider in Cardiff, and Warburton's performance proved decisive.
Lions boss Warren Gatland named Warburton skipper and left Robshaw out of the squad altogether.
And Robshaw admitted: "Of course it is tough. You think you are in with a good shout. I spoke to (Lions forwards coach) Graham Rowntree and he said I was close but that is not really a consolation is it?
"That is why the Lions is so special, it is so hard to be part of. You look at the competition in the back row, it is phenomenal the number of world class players.
"Unfortunately, I didn't quite make it. Graham was very honest with me. He didn't try and sugar-coat things. It is a setback but it is about how you react."
Robshaw will plough his energies into Harlequins' bid to retain their Premiership title, starting with Saturday's semi-final against Leicester at Welford Road.
"You have a little sulk but we are into a semi-final this weekend. It is about making sure we finish the season in the right way," he said.
