Tickets for this summer's Tests between Australia and the British & Irish Lions sold out within 15 minutes on Monday morning.

The Lions will play the Wallabies in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

The opener in Brisbane sold out in five minutes, and tickets for the other two were snapped up with quarter of an hour.

ARU chief executive Bill Pulver said: "This is a tour that has been 12 years in the making, and sporting fans around the country have acknowledged its magnitude by rushing to be part of the event.

The Lions live on Sky Sports

The pinnacle of British and Irish rugby, the Lions tour, returns and heads to Australia. Sky Sports will broadcast the entire tour live with all three Tests against the Wallabies plus all seven tour matches. For the first time, the inaugural tour match will take place in Hong Kong. The British & Irish Lions tour will be the fifth consecutive tour shown exclusively live on Sky.

"To see allocations exhausted for the three Test matches and for the Lions match against the Waratahs - four months out from the tour - is a wonderful endorsement for what will be a truly memorable visit by one of international sports' most iconic teams.

"For the ARU, a code of football so long maligned for having dropped off the pace for public interest against AFL, NRL and football, ticket sales reassured them that the 15-a-side game is still a crowd puller."

More than 30,000 Lions fans travelled to Australia for the 2001 tour and similar numbers are expected this time.

Tickets are still available for the Lions' fixtures against all five Super Rugby teams - Western Force, the Reds, Waratahs, Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels - plus a midweek appointment with a Combined NSW-Queensland Country side.

The 10-game Lions tour kicks off against the Barbarians in Hong Kong on June 1 and the Tests are scheduled for June 22, 29 and July 6.
