Ospreys winger Jeff Hassler faces up to five months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury that requires surgery.

The Canada international was injured during the closing stages of his country's 18-9 defeat against Romania in Bucharest a fortnight ago and the Ospreys have now confirmed he will undergo knee surgery this week.

Ospreys' medical performance manager Chris Towers said: "Jeff sustained medial knee ligament damage, and following consultation it was clear that the best course of treatment is surgery.

"He is being operated on this week and will be looking at a rehab period of up to five months."
