Ian Evans: Latest Wales star to agree France move
Ospreys lock Ian Evans has become the latest Wales star to join the exodus to France after agreeing a three-year deal with European champions Toulon.
Evans will move to southern France at the end of the season, the latest in a long line of high-profile stars to leave Wales.
Jamie Roberts, Dan Lydiate (both Racing Metro) and George North (Northampton) were among those to leave last summer, while Jonathan Davies will move to Clermont Auvergne at the same time as Evans.
Top 14 and big Aviva Premiership clubs can offer substantially more in wages than the four Welsh franchises. And uncertainty over the future of the Heineken Cup means the Welsh clubs are finding financial planning difficult.
A statement on the Ospreys website read: "While the future for Welsh rugby remains shrouded in uncertainty situations like this remain, unfortunately, inevitable, but as a business we will continue to strive to make the right decisions for the long-term future of Ospreys Rugby."
Andy Lloyd, rugby operations manager at the Ospreys, said: "On behalf of the Ospreys I'd like to thank Ian for his years of service to the region.
"It's not the way that either he or the Ospreys would have wanted to announce his departure but, unfortunately, due to there being so many unknown variables in the Welsh rugby landscape, incidents like this will continue to happen at every region."
