Ospreys flanker Tom Smith faces another long spell out of rugby after suffering a serious knee injury.
Smith was hurt during the Ospreys' RaboDirect PRO12 victory over Edinburgh last month, and he will now undergo surgery.
"Tom suffered a complex multi-ligament injury to his knee that will ultimately require surgery to repair the damage, which will take place over the next two weeks," Ospreys head physiotherapist Chris Towers said.
"The surgery will then be followed by a lengthy recovery and rehabilitation process."
The 27-year-old back-row forward picked up a groin injury in pre-season in the summer of 2012, a problem that eventually ruled him out for the whole of the 2012/13 campaign.
Smith returned to feature three times for the region this season but will have to undertake another long period of rehabilitation on the knee problem after his operation before returning to first-team action.
