Phil Mack: Signed as short-term cover at scrum-half
Ospreys have announced the signing of scrum-half Phil Mack as cover for the injured Rhys Webb and Tom Habberfield.
The Canada international has agreed a short-term deal as the Welsh outfit deal with a shortage on No 9s, with Tito Tebaldi currently their only fit senior scrum-half.
Wales star Webb will be sidelined until the new year with a knee problem, while Habberfield sustained an ankle injury last month and is not expected to return until mid-October.
"We are pleased to have been able to secure Phil's services and he will provide us with some much needed cover in a crucial position over the coming weeks."
Young winger Tom Grabham has been providing back-up for Tebaldi on the bench, but the signing of Mack gives the Ospreys a much-needed extra option.
Rugby operations manager Andy Lloyd said: "We are pleased to have been able to secure Phil's services and he will provide us with some much needed cover in a crucial position over the coming weeks.
"With Rhys already sidelined, Tom's untimely pre-season injury has left us light at scrum-half, having only a winger or untried youngsters as cover.
"With that in mind we felt it was crucial that we acted swiftly, and in Phil we have someone who has impressed at international level and who we believe can come in at short notice and do a good job for the region.
"We are also grateful to the WRU for their understanding of the situation."
Mack plays for the British Columbia Bears in the Canadian Rugby Championship and has earned 14 international caps since making his debut against Ireland in 2009.
Mack becomes the third Canadian player to join the Ospreys following Tyler Ardron and Jeff Hassler, who were signed during the summer.
