Steve Tandy: Ospreys coach loses one of his tight-head options
Ospreys prop Dimitri Arhip has been ruled out for up to six months after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The Moldova front-rower was hurt in their pre-season defeat at the hands of Aviva Premiership side Bath and will most likely not play until at least February.
Arhip, a tight-head prop, was making his first full appearance for the franchise after nine previous outings as a replacement.
Coach Steve Tandy said: "Dimitri has ruptured his Achilles and is probably looking at four to six months out. It's extremely disappointing.
"Bath may have had the edge on us up front in the scrums, but it was Dimitri's first start and with the work he did around the park, putting in some really physical tackles, I feel there's a bright future for him."
The injury will put added pressure on Joe Rees, Nicky Thomas and Daniel Suter to produce with Adam Jones still working his way back to full fitness after his Lions exertions and Adrian Jarvis sidelined by a serious knee injury.
