Sale will open their Amlin Challenge Cup campaign at home to 2012 winners Biarritz on 10 October.

The Sharks, who also won the competition in 2002, will launch the new European club rugby season with a Thursday night fixture against the seasoned Top 14 side.

London Irish host Italian minnows Cavalieri Prato on 11 October at the Madejski Stadium but their key contests are likely to come in rounds three and four in December when they play back-to-back fixtures against last season's runners-up, Stade Francais.

Underway

Wasps get underway in Italy on 12 October when they visit Rugby Viadana while 2008 winners Bath face a difficult trip to Bordeaux-Begles on the same day.

The Dragons, who are the sole Welsh side in the competition, will open at home to Mogliano before travelling across the River Severn to face Bath in round two.
