Newport Gwent Dragons have received a boost with the news Kingsley Jones has joined the coaching staff of the RaboDirect PRO12 outfit.

The ex-Sale Sharks boss and current coach of Russia worked with Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones at London Welsh last season and he was impressed with what he saw.

Lyn Jones told the club's official website: "I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Kingsley last season at London Welsh - he delivered what was asked and more, becoming very popular with the squad.

"Kingsley will assist with all skill and technique development with squad, then specialise on forward play as we build a happy and positive environment where players learn, improve and enjoy each other on and off the field."

Team manager Robert Beale added: "We are very grateful to the Russian Union for allowing Kingsley to assist with the coaching at Newport Gwent Dragons."

A former Wales captain and flanker, Kingsley Jones originally comes from Nantyglo in Blaenau Gwent and played his club rugby in Wales for Cross Keys, Pontypridd and Ebbw Vale before moving to Gloucester, Worcester and Doncaster.

He is excited by the challenge ahead, saying: "I am pleased to be part of the team here at the Dragons and assisting Lyn Jones with the coaching. I want to help to develop the youngsters in the team to and push the Dragons up the table.

"It's an exciting challenge for me to be able to coach in Wales and I am looking forward to taking it on."
