Summer internationals: Wales centre Scott Williams to miss tour of South Africa

Wales centre Scott Williams has been ruled out of next month’s two-Test tour of South Africa.

The Scarlets star hasn’t recovered from a shoulder injury he suffered during the Six Nations defeat to Ireland in February.

Warren Gatland had hoped the 23-year-old would be available but he will now spend the summer with the Scarlets focusing on his recovery.

Williams is the latest in a long injury list for Wales. Captain Sam Warburton, Ashley Beck, Leigh Halfpenny, Richard Hibbard, James King, Justin Tipuric and Rhys Webb have already been ruled out of the South African tour.

Rhys Priestland and Dan Lydiate are major doubts after suffering knee ligament and hamstring injuries respectively while fellow Owen Williams picked up a leg injury during Leicester Tigers’ win over Saracens.

Wales face the Springboks in Duban on June 14 before travelling to Nelspruit for the second Test a week later. Both Tests are live on Sky Sports.
