George North: The Wales winger is reportedly attracting interest from Top 14 clubs
Northampton have made a bid to sign Wales wing George North from the Scarlets.
North, 20, has one year left on his Scarlets contract and his agent Christian Abt said: "There has been an approach between the two clubs to discuss a possible transfer."
"There has been an approach between the two clubs to discuss a possible transfer."
North is one of the brightest young stars in northern hemisphere rugby, and a near-certainty to be part of the squad for the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia this summer.
He has reportedly attracted attention from the big-spending French Top 14 clubs as well as from across the border.
Abt told the BBC: "I don't think it will drag on too long. I think these things need to happen quite quickly if it's going to happen so that each party knows where they stand.
"It's counter-productive to sort of drag on and for the player as well to know where he will be, so ideally I'm sure it will resolve itself in the next couple of weeks."
If North did leave for the Aviva Premiership it would be the latest in a long line of big-name departures from Wales.
The exodus has already seen Mike Phillips, Gethin Jenkins, James Hook, Lee Byrne, Luke Charteris leave for France and centre Jamie Roberts and flanker Dan Lydiate will also be crossing the channel in the summer.
Welsh clubs cannot match the wages on offer in England and in particular France.
Saints have already completed one signing from Wales for next season with the capture of Ospreys scrum-half Kahn Fotuali'i.
