Leinster hooker Richardt Strauss will miss the rest of their season after undergoing hamstring surgery on Monday.
The South African-born Ireland international had his game-time limited earlier in the campaign due to a heart problem discovered in October.
However, Strauss made an earlier return than expected and following his January comeback made nine appearances for Leinster and was in contention for Ireland’s summer tour of Argentina, but the Irish Independent report he will now be recovering for a “number of months”.
Leinster continue their RaboDirect PRO12 title defence on Saturday when they welcome Ulster to the RDS for a home semi-final after finishing three points clear at the top of table.
Ireland scrum-half Eoin Reddan continues to make steady progress as he recovers from a shoulder injury and a final decision on his availability for the PRO12 semi-final will come later in the week.
Lock Mike McCarthy also sustained a blow in the final round of regular season action and is unlikely to feature this weekend and winger Luke Fitzgerald has been ruled out, although Matt O’Connor will have international duo Sean O’Brien and Fergus McFadden available.
