London Irish made it two wins from two in the Challenge Cup as they battled past Grenoble 25-15 at the Stade Lesdiguières.

The Exiles took the game by the scruff of the neck early on with a try for centre Fergus Mulchrone.

Halani Aulika and Alex Lewington had also gone over before the half-hour mark as the visitors threatened to run away with it, but James Hart kept Grenoble in touch with five penalties.

When Jebb Sinclair went to the bin with his side leading 17-15, it looked like Grenoble might pull off the comeback, but a penalty from Chris Noakes followed by a Luke Narraway try put Irish back in complete control.

And from there they saw the game out to maintain their position at the top of Pool 1.

Newcastle came from behind to record a thrilling 30-26 victory away against the Dragons to move top of Pool 3.

Mark Wilson and Will Witty went over early in the second half as the Falcons overcame a 20-13 half-time lead to emerge victorious.

The Dragons had looked like making it two wins from two thanks to three first-half tries from Matthew Pewtner, Taulupe Faletau and Ashley Smith.

But Lee Smith, who had gone over for a first-half try, added what proved to be a decisive penalty 15 minutes from time to secure the win.

Edinburgh battled past Lyon 25-17 to cement their position at the top of Pool 4 although they didn't have it all their own way.

When Jack Cuthbert went over after just four minutes, it looked like it could be a very one-sided encounter, but that proved to be the Scottish side's only try.

Instead, they had to rely on the boot of Tom Heathcote, with the fly-half finishing with 20 points including six penalties.

Lyon stayed in touch thanks to tries from Masi Matadigo and Didier Tison but they eventually went home with nothing, Heathcote's last penalty in the final seconds denying them a losing bonus point.

La Rochelle bounced back from last week's hammering at Connacht to comfortably claim an all-French affair 25-13 against Bayonne.

Julien Berger, Levani Botia and Jone Qovu all went over in a comprehensive victory.

Bayonne, who had impressed against Exeter last week, struggled to impose themselves and saw their hopes of reaching the knockout stages severely dented.

Zebre bounced back from last week's heartbreaking loss to Oyonnax with an impressive 26-21 win away at Brive.

The Italian side dominated the first half thanks to a try from Kelly Haimona and the kicking of Edoardo Padovani to lead 13-7 at the break.

Brive, who had scored the first try through Riaan Swanepoel, added a second after the break through Andrew Malilei to get back into it.

But the Italians stretched their lead once more when Valerio Bernabo crossed 15 minutes from time.

The home response came from Thomas Sanchou but a fourth penalty from Padovani got secured a morale-boosting away win for the Italians.
